LG can effectively destabilise MCD by nominating members: Supreme Court
The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, voiced concern over the power given to the Lieutenant Governor (LG) in Delhi to nominate aldermen (nominated members) to the city's municipal corporation without the consent of the state government. The CJI was speaking for the bench during the resumed hearing of a petition filed by the Delhi government seeking the quashing of notifications through which the LG appointed 10 members to the MCD on his own initiative.
