Intermediate goods exports fall in fourth quarter of 2022 amid supply chain disruptions

World exports of intermediate goods (IGs) fell by 10 per cent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2022 to US$ 2.3 trillion, reflecting the disruptions global supply chains faced in the closing months of the year due to the geopolitical context, commodity shortages, high energy prices and weak consumption. The decrease affected practically all regions.

Nigeria formally accepts the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies

World Trade Organization 

Nigeria deposited its instrument of acceptance for the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies on 12 June, making it the second African WTO member to do so. Ambassador Adamu Mohammed Abdulhamid presented Nigeria’s instrument of acceptance to Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in Geneva, Switzerland. Acceptances from two-thirds of WTO members are needed for the Agreement to come into effect.

Youth Trade Summit on Gender to foster next generation of trade and gender experts

World Trade Organization 

The WTO, jointly with the WTO Gender Research Hub, will hold the Youth Trade Summit on Gender on 13-14 November at the WTO’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland to promote opportunities for young professionals and researchers to engage in discussions on trade and gender issues. The nomination process for researchers and government professionals aged 20-35 to participate in the summit is open until 10 July.
