Ignorance is bliss? Information and risk on crowdfunding platforms

Plos.org

by Chiara D’Arcangelo, Azzurra Morreale, Luigi Mittone, Mikael Collan

This research examines the determinants of project success on crowdfunding platforms within a competitive context. We focus on the specific horizontal attributes of the project–attributes that do not affect the project returns but over which investors may have heterogeneous preferences–and on the project returns’ risk level. We run a laboratory experiment with several set-ups, where multiple projects compete for funding... Читать дальше...

Exploring causal effects of smoking and alcohol related lifestyle factors on self-report tiredness: A Mendelian randomization study

Plos.org

by Heshan Li, Junru Zhao, Jing Liang, Xiaoyu Song

Self-reported tiredness or low energy, often referred to as fatigue, has been linked to lifestyle factors, although data from randomized–controlled trials are lacking. We investigate whether modifiable lifestyle factors including smoking and alcohol intake related exposures (SAIEs) are causal factors for fatigue using Mendelian randomization (MR). A two-sample MR study was performed by using genome-wide association summary results from UK Biobank (UKBB)... Читать дальше...

Research on low-carbon dual channel supply chain considering product substitution under government carbon tax and low-carbon subsidy

Plos.org

by Changyan Xu, Xin Tang, Jingyao Song, Chuanxu Wang

Since dual channel supply chain has become one of the main modes of supply chain, its research has acquired great significance. This paper constructs a low-carbon dual channel supply chain composed of one manufacturer and one retailer. The manufacturer produces low-carbon product and high carbon product with substitution relationship. The retailer sells high carbon product in traditional channel. The manufacturer also sells low-carbon product in direct channel. Читать дальше...

The role of geography and distance on physician follow-up after a first hospitalization with a diagnosis of a schizophrenia spectrum disorder: A retrospective population-based cohort study in Ontario, Canada

Plos.org

by Martin Rotenberg, Peter Gozdyra, Kelly K. Anderson, Paul Kurdyak

Background

Timely follow-up after hospitalization for a schizophrenia spectrum disorder (SSD) is an important quality indicator. We examined the proportion of individuals who received physician follow-up within 7 and 30 days post-discharge by health region and estimated the effect of distance between a person’s residence and discharging hospital on follow-up.

Methods

We created a retrospective population-based cohort... Читать дальше...

Drug–Drug interactions of docetaxel in patients with breast cancer based on insurance claims data

Plos.org

by Kwang-Hee Shin, Young-Mi Ah, Sang Hun Cha, Hye Duck Choi

Despite an increase in the use of targeted anticancer drugs and immunotherapy, cytotoxic anticancer drugs such as docetaxel continue to play a clinically important role. The aim of this study was to evaluate drug–drug interactions between docetaxel and coadministered medicines in patients with breast cancer a claims database. The Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) database (2017 to 2019) was used in this study. Читать дальше...

Multivariate epidemic count time series model

Plos.org

by Shinsuke Koyama

An infectious disease spreads not only over a single population or community but also across multiple and heterogeneous communities. Moreover, its transmissibility varies over time because of various factors such as seasonality and epidemic control, which results in strongly nonstationary behavior. In conventional methods for assessing transmissibility trends or changes, univariate time-varying reproduction numbers are calculated without taking into account transmission across multiple communities. Relational models theory: Validation and replication for four fundamental relationships

Plos.org

by Michael Zakharin, Timothy C. Bates

Relational models theory predicts that social relationships are formed from four underlying psychological models: communal sharing, authority ranking, equality matching, and market pricing. Here, in four studies, we test this four-factor model using the 33-item Modes of Relationships Questionnaire (MORQ). In Study 1, we administered the MORQ to N = 347 subjects. A parallel analysis supported the four-factor structure, but several items failed to load on their predicted target factors. Читать дальше...

Potato psyllids mount distinct gut responses against two different ‘Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum’ haplotypes

Plos.org

by Xiao-Tian Tang, Julien Levy, Cecilia Tamborindeguy

‘Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum’ (Lso) is a bacterial pathogen infecting several crops and causing damaging diseases. Several Lso haplotypes have been identified. Among the seven haplotypes present in North America, LsoA and LsoB are transmitted by the potato psyllid, Bactericera cockerelli (Šulc), in a circulative and persistent manner. The gut, which is the first organ pathogen encounters, could be a barrier for Lso transmission. Читать дальше...

Football players’ strength training method using image processing based on machine learning

Plos.org

by Xiaoxiang Cao, Xiaodong Zhao, Huan Tang, Nianchun Fan, Fateh Zereg

This work addresses the declining physical fitness levels observed in both football players and the general population. The objective is to investigate the impact of functional strength training on the physical capabilities of football players and to develop a machine learning-based approach for posture recognition. A total of 116 adolescents aged 8 to 13 participating in football training are randomly assigned to either... Читать дальше...
