Pricing strategies for new product and remanufactured product considering emission sensitive demand

Plos.org

by Xixi Huang, Zhenkai Lou, Xiaozhen Dai, Lieying Luo

With the rapidly increasing concern on environmental pollution and resource shortage, remanufactured products attract many attentions. In order to determine the optimal production and pricing strategy, we construct decision models for both single-product market and mixed-product market. Consumers’ different preferences for new products and remanufactured products are considered. First, we construct pricing models for a single-product market... Читать дальше...

Shame and anger differentially predict disidentification between collectivistic and individualistic societies

Plos.org

by Isabel Bierle, Julia C. Becker, Gen Nakao, Steven J. Heine

In the present research we tested the differential effects of anger versus shame as emotional predictors of ingroup disidentification in one rather collectivistic (Japan) and two rather individualistic societies (Germany, Canada). We tested the idea that individuals cope with socially undesired emotions by disidentifying from their group. Specifically, we predicted that after a group conflict, anger, an undesired emotion in Japan... Читать дальше...

Why is Korean girls’ suicidal ideation rate higher than boys’ rate? The role of gender heterogeneity in peer groups

Plos.org

by Youngjoon Bae, Jaein Lee

Girls typically show much lower suicide rates than boys in most OECD countries. However, in South Korea, the suicide rate of girls almost reaches that of boys. Moreover, Korean girls’ suicide rate is remarkable even among other advanced countries. One potential approach to explaining Korean girls’ relatively high suicide rate is to investigate how their peer groups affect suicidal ideation, but this approach has rarely been explored in Korean adolescents. We tested... Читать дальше...

Mental workload task modeled on office work: Focusing on the flow state for well-being

Plos.org

by Chie Kurosaka, Hiroyuki Kuraoka, Takashi Maruyama

This research aimed to objectively evaluate the optimal state of desk work (flow state) through physiological measurements and use the data to support workers’ mental health and well-being. We suppose that the flow state evaluation in real-time can contribute to a concentrated work environment, improved work efficiency, and stabilize worker’s minds. This study reports on the development of the mental task modeled on daily work for the physiological measurement experiment. Читать дальше...

Tourism during health disasters: Exploring the role of health system quality, transport infrastructure, and environmental expenditures in the revival of the global tourism industry

Plos.org

by Yu Xiong, Xiaohan Tang

Tourism is one of the most important promoters of sustainable development in many nations and regions around the globe. Tourism expansion has been a significant contributor to social and economic growth, particularly in developing economies. It is, however, vulnerable to all kinds of health crises and natural disasters, no matter how small they are. The primary purpose of this study is to acquire an empirical understanding of the effects of health crises and disasters on international tourism. Читать дальше...

Place attachment and perception of climate change as a threat in rural and urban areas

Plos.org

by Thora Tenbrink, Simon Willcock

Climate change is a global threat to ecosystems and the people that depend on them. However, the perceived threat of climate change may vary spatially. Previous research suggests that inhabitants in rural areas show higher levels of place attachment (associating meaning with a specific place) than urbanites, possibly because rural people depend more directly on their local environment. This can shape perceptions and behaviours, such as enhanced willingness to engage in landscape preservation. Читать дальше...

Equivalence of information production and generalised entropies in complex processes

Plos.org

by Rudolf Hanel, Stefan Thurner

Complex systems with strong correlations and fat-tailed distribution functions have been argued to be incompatible with the Boltzmann-Gibbs entropy framework and alternatives, so-called generalised entropies, were proposed and studied. Here we show, that this perceived incompatibility is actually a misconception. For a broad class of processes, Boltzmann entropy –the log multiplicity– remains the valid entropy concept. However, for non-i.i.d. processes, Boltzmann entropy is not of Shannon form... Читать дальше...

Prognostic value of neoadjuvant therapy for resectable and borderline resectable pancreatic cancer: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Plos.org

by Shangtong Liu, Hui Li, Yuhui Xue, Liang Yang

Objective

To investigate the prognostic value of preoperative neoadjuvant therapy (NT) compared to upfront surgery (US) in patients with resectable and borderline resectable pancreatic cancer.

Methods

PubMed, Embase, Web of Science were searched to collect randomized controlled trials on preoperative neoadjuvant therapy versus upfront surgery for resectable and borderline resectable pancreatic cancer before April 7, 2023, and data were... Читать дальше...

Women’s strategies for navigating a healthy sex life post-sexual trauma

Plos.org

by Kristen P. Mark, Laura M. Vowels, Lindsey Mullis, Katarina Hoskins

Sexual trauma is common. Consequences of sexual trauma can include deterioration of mental and physical health and it can also affect future romantic and sexual relationships. Previous studies have identified common healthy and destructive coping mechanisms to recover after experiencing sexual trauma, but few studies have investigated useful strategies to move into a healthy sexual relationship focused on resilience. In-depth... Читать дальше...
