S&P retains India’s growth forecast at 6%; expects higher inflation and no rate cut this year

S&P Global Ratings has maintained its forecast for India's FY24 growth at 6%, citing a global economic slowdown, sub-normal monsoon, and delayed rate hikes. The agency expects inflation to rise to 5.5% in FY24, pushing the rate cut horizon to FY25. S&P now predicts the Reserve Bank of India to cut rates in FY25 and bring them down to 5.5% by the end of the next fiscal year. The agency also retained its growth forecast for FY25 and FY26 at 6.9% and 7% respectively.

Hindu saints staged a protest against Udhayanidhi Stalin, a DMK leader, over his remarks about Sanatan Dharma. They burnt effigies of Stalin and other leaders near Tamil Nadu Bhawan in Delhi. The protesters demanded an apology from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin for his son's actions and called for political leaders to refrain from making statements against Sanatan Dharma.

Speculation grows about fate of HS2 to Manchester

Business leaders and many politicians have been rallying to the defence of HS2, as reports continue to allege that the Prime Minister is poised to cancel Phase 2 north of Birmingham to Crewe and Manchester. It is said that a decision could be announced before the Conservative Party conference in Manchester, which starts on Sunday. The chair of the National Infrastructure Commission Sir John Armitt said cancellation would be a ‘tragedy’.

Additionally, he highlights the potential of MCX and CDSL as stocks to watch.
