- 1982 — Cal Ripken, Jr. of the Baltimore Orioles begins his major league record consecutive games played streak by starting at third base (his position for the first 27 games during the streak), appearing eighth in the batting order against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Cubs outfielder Albert Almora, who hit the foul ball that injured the child, was understandably emotional after the game. He said his eyes focused on her right as he hit the ball. Almora said he hopes to form a relationship with the girl and her family “for the rest of my life.”
