Research on the characteristics and influencing factors of the spatial correlation network of cultivated land utilization ecological efficiency in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, China

Plos.org

by Wei He, FeiFan Wang, Ni Feng

Researching the structural characteristics of the spatial correlation network of cultivated land utilization ecological efficiency is of great significance to China’s food security and agricultural green and low-carbon development. Taking 47 cities (autonomous prefectures) in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River as the research object, the ecological efficiency of cultivated land utilization from 2010 to 2020 was measured based on the unexpected output model (Super SBM)... Self-quarantining, social distancing, and mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic: A multi wave, longitudinal investigation

Plos.org

by Jerin Lee, Jenna Wilson, Benjamin Oosterhoff, Natalie J. Shook

Social isolation and disconnectedness increase the risk of worse mental health, which might suggest that preventive health measures (i.e., self-quarantining, social distancing) negatively affect mental health. This longitudinal study examined relations of self-quarantining and social distancing with mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. A U.S. national sample (N = 1,011) completed eight weekly online surveys from March 20, 2020 to May 17, 2020. Читать дальше...

Factors associated with the leftover rate of side dishes in Japanese school lunches

Plos.org

by Kiyo Nakagiri, Yukari Sato, Takayo Kawakami

This study investigated the leftover rate of side dishes in school lunches provided by communal kitchens in Japan’s Chugoku region, with a focus on vegetable dishes supplied in containers and three types of menu items served daily to 20 elementary and junior high schools in communal kitchen A for 116 days. First, the leftovers in the containers that were returned to the communal kitchen were weighed and combined. The study then compared outside temperature... Читать дальше...

Mapping queen snapper (Etelis oculatus) suitable habitat in Puerto Rico using ensemble species distribution modeling

Plos.org

by Katherine E. Overly, Vincent Lecours

Queen snapper (Etelis oculatus) is of interest from an ecological and management perspective as it is the second most landed finfish species (by total pounds) as determined by Puerto Rico commercial landings (2010–2019). As fishing activities progressively expand into deeper waters, it is critical to gather data on deep-sea fish populations to identify essential fish habitats (EFH). In the U.S. Caribbean, the critically data-deficient nature of this species has made this challenging. Читать дальше...

Meta-analysis of the effectiveness and safety of robotic-assisted versus laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal repair for inguinal hernia

Plos.org

by Xi Li, Yue-Juan Li, Hui Dong, Deng-Chao Wang, Jian Wei

Background

Inguinal hernia is a common global disease. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness and safety of robot-assisted transabdominal preperitoneal repair (RTAPP) and laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal repair (LTAPP) for inguinal hernia.

Methods

We conducted a thorough search in Cochrane Library, Embase, and PubMed for relevant clinical studies. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, the quality... Читать дальше...

Ultra-dense Motion Capture: An exploratory full-automatic approach for dense tracking of breast motion in 4D

Plos.org

by Qi-long Liu, Kit-lun Yick, Yue Sun, Joanne Yip

Understanding the dynamic deformation pattern and biomechanical properties of breasts is crucial in various fields, including designing ergonomic bras and customized prostheses, as well as in clinical practice. Previous studies have recorded and analyzed the dynamic behaviors of the breast surface using 4D scanning, which provides a sequence of 3D meshes during movement with high spatial and temporal resolutions. However, these studies are... Читать дальше...

Underwater image enhancement using multi-task fusion

Plos.org

by Kaibo Liao, Xi Peng

Underwater images are often scattered due to suspended particles in the water, resulting in light scattering and blocking and reduced visibility and contrast. Color shifts and distortions are also caused by the absorption of different wavelengths of light in the water. This series of problems will make the underwater image quality greatly impaired, resulting in some advanced visual work can not be carried out underwater. In order to solve these problems, this paper... Читать дальше...

The effect of rest redistribution on kinetic and kinematic variables during the hang pull

Plos.org

by David Meechan, John J. McMahon, Timothy J. Suchomel, Paul Comfort

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of rest redistribution (RR) on kinetics and kinematics during the hang pull (HP). Twenty-one male athletes (age 29.5 ± 4.3 years, height 1.78 ± 0.07 m, body mass 75.17 ± 11.11 kg, relative one repetition maximum [1RM] power clean [PC] 1.17 ± 0.14 kg.kg-1) performed the HP using 140% of 1RM PC with 3 traditional sets of 6 repetitions (TS), 9 sets of 2 repetitions with RR [45s... Exploring risk factors for insect borer attack in Georgia’s (USA) urban landscapes

Plos.org

by Zia V. Williamson, Brett R. Blaauw, Shimat V. Joseph

Urban trees are at risk of stress due to heat island effects and the increased proportion of impervious areas surrounding them. Among pests of trees, insect borers such as bark beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) and flatheaded borers (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) are some of the most devastating, frequently colonizing stressed trees. The objective of this study was to explore the effects of biotic and abiotic risk factors on borer attacks on trees in urban areas. Читать дальше...

Linguistic analysis of health anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic

Plos.org

by Alexandra D. Peterson, Mindy M. Kibbey, Samantha G. Farris

Health anxiety, which is defined as fear of having or contracting serious physical illness, is particularly salient in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted a mixed methods study in which 578 narrative samples were analyzed using Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) software to determine linguistic markers from six LIWC categories relevant to cognitive-behavioral features of health anxiety. Broad linguistic predictors... Читать дальше...
