US President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance are pushing for a government shutdown, urging Republicans in Congress to reject a stopgap funding bill that would keep federal agencies running through March 2025. US government services would be disrupted and hundreds of thousands of federal workers would be told not to work if Congress fails to extend funding past Friday. A shutdown could hinder holiday travel, delay services, and impact economic growth, while essential workers remain on the job but face delayed pay.

The water regulator’s decision to raise bills by around £31 a year from April has been dubbed a “national scandal”.
Ofwat announced today that water bills in England and Wales will rise by 36% by 2030 in an effort to address pollution and mounting debt.
