Liverpool begin Champions League trophy parade through the city as thousands turn out to party
THOUSANDS of Liverpool fans are lining the streets of the city to hail their Champions League winning heroes.
Jurgen Klopp and his side partied hard through the night following their Champions League victory over Tottenham in Madrid.
Thousands of Reds fans enjoyed a night on the town in Madrid and on Merseyside as they celebrated the club being crowned European champions for a sixth time.
And they get to do it all again this afternoon as the squad parade through the streets of Liverpool where tens of thousands are expected to welcome them back home in style.
The Liverpool squad posed for pictures on the steps of their plane after landing back at John Lennon Airport proudly clutching the trophy and wearing their medals.
From there it was on to a short reception and food, before the party started in earnest at 4pm at Allerton Maze.
After touching down on Merseyside, captain Jordan Henderson admitted he couldn’t wait to mix it with the fans to celebrate.
He said: “It’s amazing, it still hasn’t sunk in to be honest.”

The bus left the starting point at 4pm, with the Liverpool players all wearing shirts with the number six on their backs – in recognition of their sixth European Cup win.
From there the bus carrying the squad and officials will traveled north along Queens Drive, Mill Bank, West Derby Road, Islington, Leeds Street and the Strand.
They were greeted like returning heroes as fans broke into songs and cheers as the squad passed by, with some letting off red smoke bombs to add to the atmosphere.
The parade is then due to end at Blundell Street, on the waterfront, where speeches and more partying is expected.
By coincidence, the Mersey River Festival and Bordeaux Wine Festival events are also taking place in the area.
A deafening roar welcomed the Liverpool bus as it reached the final part of its tour, with red-coloured confetti bursting up in the air.
