A POIGNANT candlelight vigil has been held in Sheffield for two brothers allegedly murdered by their mum.

The vigil was held on what would have been Blake’s 15th birthday.

The Rev David Dean-Revill, from St James and St Christopher’s Church, said: “Shiregreen is a friendly and resilient community that has been shaken by this tragic event.

“Today many people are mourning and showing their respect, love and care for the very sad loss of two very young lives.

“We will continue to pray for the family and all those affected by this tragic event.”

Many mourners never knew the tragic siblings, but wanted to pay their respects during the silent candle vigil.

Locals had come out in force to light candles for the tragic victims, some openly weeping.

They gathered for the memorial at St James’ and St Christopher’s Church in Shiregreen, Sheffield, South Yorks — near the family home where the brothers died just nine days ago.

They also placed birthday cards at the altar amidst dozens of glowing T-lights.

Outside the church a group of school children who knew the brothers released heart shaped balloons to remember them.

Tearful Samantha Keates said: “It is a sad loss of two beautiful boys, the kindest, loveliest boys you could ever meet.”

Samantha’s seven-year-old daughter Macy chanted: “Happy Birthday. Bye bye” before they all clapped loudly.

Her balloon stated: “To Blake and Tristan. Look after each other boys.”

The boys’ 34-year-old mum is expected to go on trial later this year accused of killing her two teen sons.

Her half-brother Brandon Machin, 38, has also been accused of murdering the boys.

The mum has also been charged with three counts of attempted murder against two other children.

They are due back in court later this month with a trial date expected in the autumn.

The close knit community have left floral tributes and balloons at the scene.

And In their latest gesture they turned out today to pray for the boys.

Among cards placed at the altar was one saying on the front: “You’re like a son.”

Another read: “To Blake. Today you should be celebrating your 15th birthday with us, instead you are in heaven watching down on us.

“Blake, you are like a son to me. You always have been and will be. We celebrated every birthday together over the last 10 years and I will continue to do so in your memory.”

“Happy 15th Birthday. All my love 2nd mum Dee.”

Another poignant card read:,”To Blake we cannot believe  you’re gone but on your 15th birthday we will celebrate your life and remember the good time. We all miss you and love you. Rest in peace.”
