Manoj Kumar Paras, former state minister and sitting Samajwadi Party MLA from Nagina in Bijnor, was sent to jail by a special court on Saturday. He was one of the four accused in a gang-rape case lodged on June 13 in 2007. The survivor, a Dalit, had alleged that she was raped by Paras and his aides on the pretext of granting a shop under government quota. The court will be hearing his bail plea on June 4.
