THESE incredible pictures taken from a drone show thousands of Muslims at prayer as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

They were taken from above one of the world’s biggest mosques, the Jama Masjid in New Delhi, and come as Muslims around the world were celebrating the festival.

The mosque can accommodate 25,000 people, who offer their prayers in unison.

It was built in the 17th century by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, who also built the iconic Red Fort and the world famous Taj Mahal.

The building has three great gates and four towers as well as two 130ft minarets made from strips of red sandstone and white marble.

Eid or Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting that started on May 5 and finished yesterday.

The festival kick-starts the month of Shawwal, which begins with a feast to end the long period of fasting.

It is believed that good deeds are rewarded 10 times in Islam and so fasting for the 30 days fulfils the obligation of fasting for the entire year.

Traditionally, the festival last for three days but public holidays can vary in different countries around the world.

It is a celebratory festival and men and women will dress up for the occasion – with some painting their hands in henna.

Friends and family gather together to exchange gifts and money and eat traditional food.

Muslims also take part in prayer services and attend a sermon after dawn.
