Will.i.am says Britain’s best chance at Eurovision is sending the winner of The Voice
OUR dismal Eurovision display may have left us all wondering if we will ever win it again – but WILL.I.AM reckons he has the perfect solution.
The Black Eyed Peas star has suggested that sending The Voice champion would be a surefire way to give the UK a great chance of taking the crown once more.
We last won it 22 years ago when Katrina And The Waves triumphed.
Speaking in an exclusive interview to launch The Voice Kids, he said: “How comes the winner of The Voice doesn’t automatically go to Eurovision?
“You know what I’m saying? That would work.”
The rapper may finally have landed on a great idea after Michael Rice, with no profile, came last with a paltry 11 points in this year’s competition held in Tel Aviv last month.
It was the fourth time in 17 years the UK had finished in last place.
Will returns to the ITV talent show this weekend alongside Pixie Lott, McFly’s Danny Jones and brand new judge Jessie J. And Jessie admitted she found it tough getting used to saying “no” to the young singers in front of the nation.
She explained: “I was more nervous about that than anything else and once we’d all turned around afterwards. The kids faces changed.
“Because they’re not disappointed, they’re so gracious and grateful for the experience.
“There were a few tears but that’s more adrenaline. They actually made me feel better about it.”
There’s no mistaking that these young singers deal with rejection far better than most adults three times their age.
THE VOICE KIDS
BIZARRE TV reporter Benjy Potter got an early look at the opening episode of the series. Here are his thoughts:
“If you thought last year was good, then this year’s gonna be gooder!” exclaims Will.I.Am at the top of the show.
True, his grammar might need some work but this year bosses have finally nailed the judging line-up.
Jessie J adds a lashing of sass as she takes her seat alongside fellow critics Pixie, Danny and Will.
She’s bold, punchy and not afraid to make a feisty pitch for these mini-stars as the battle begins.
Nine-year-old pals Ava and Alfie kick off the blind audition in matching tartan outfits.
And guess what? They’re not too bad either.
Ivy, 12, also sparks a fierce bidding war between the judges as her dulcet tones and guitar start a frenzy.
Sobbing relatives, tiny divas and oodles of Ed Sheeran covers won’t have you doubting you are watching an ITV talent format.
But it’s the judges who steal the spotlight in this third series.
Finally, The Voice Kids has found its feet – now, it just needs to find a star.
Time for Little Pix?
EMMA WILLIS leads the pack as The Voice Kids coaches crack up on the red carpet yesterday.
The fivesome launched the show at the Royal Academy of Arts where Pixie dropped a hint at wanting children of her own. She said: “I love kids, I love babies . . . they’re so cute!”
Jessie also revealed she has some new hobbies. She said: “I love cooking. I think I’m all right because I haven’t killed anyone yet. And I’m also training to become a massage therapist.” Fellow coach Will chimed in: “I’m training to be a professional massage-getter. I’m starting my tour right now.”
Meanwhile, Danny revealed his 16-month-old son Cooper is following in his musical footsteps.

He said: “I’m releasing a song tonight but on the second one – out in two weeks – he played the snare on it.
“I was working for an hour on the snare sound. I was like, ‘Press that’ and he did. With the magic of computers I multiplied it.”
Careful mate, he’ll be asking for a cut of the royalties next.
