A very unique Miyata 912 :)
Hi all,
I bought this bike back in college, probably 9 or 10 years ago - and from what I can tell it's a 1981 Miyata 912. I think I paid $150 for it. It's always treated me well, shifts smoothly and rides fast - a total joy for my very infrequent and casual riding. I've never been a "bike guy" and so I never thought to take a look at the components, or compare them to what they should have been - which from what I've gathered should have been a Shimano 600 set. Today however, I decided to drag it out of the shed, give it a little wipe down and do a little digging.
What a frankenbike! A veritable bevy of component brands and models. It seems to have close to no original components, and while the frame seems to be in very good shape I have become curious as to what IS original on this thing besides the frame.
Here's what I can gather I'm working with.
- Sugino RT crankset
- Suntour Spirit front derailleur
- Suntour Symmetric shifters
- Shimano 200GS rear derailleur
- Dia-compe brake brackets
I have no real interest in switching anything out, because again for my purposes it rides just perfectly :). To add to the uh... variety... the ONLY thing I've had "done" to the bike was have a new tube installed at a local bike shop - and to my surprise they decided to replace what was a Presta valve with a Schrader, so now I have one of each . Frankenbike complete!
Unfortunately because this is my first post I can't seem to attach photos, however I've uploaded them to my user gallery for you to take a look / have a laugh at (I'd prefer not to spam 10 posts just to add photos, if anyone has a way to add photos as a "Newbie" I'll happily edit this post).
