Five people hurt as lightning bolt crashes through nursery school roof in Somerset
FIVE people were injured after a lightning bolt struck the roof of a nursery.
One was rushed to hospital after it crashed through Ready Set Go in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.
Witnesses said a child was left crying after the strike.
Fortunately no children were inside at the time, but the building had suffered “severe structural damage”.
Five people were treated for injuries, one of whom was taken to hospital yesterday, Somerset Live reports.
A spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service said: “”We were called at 6.10pm to a building struck by lightning. We treated five patients with minor injuries at the scene and took person to hospital for treatment,
“No further details, including the gender or age, of this person are available at this stage.
“We sent two ambulances, a motor response unit and senior paramedic.”
Debris was removed from the roof by firefighters using a turntable ladder.
Weston-super-Mare Fire Station tweeted it was a “major lightning strike” and confirmed no children were inside at the time.
One man, who lives nearby, told the Mirror: “It was straight on the roof.
“There was a loud bang. My daughter was crying.”

The strike also caused a power cut in the surrounding area.
Western Power Distribution confirmed it was quickly resolved.
