City boss suspended for ‘glazed ring’ joke after buying doughnuts for team
A CITY boss who brought in doughnuts was suspended after joking about a colleague’s “glazed ring”.
James Conmy emailed staff at a reinsurance firm to offer “birthday treats”.
He wrote this week: “There are doughnuts on Alf’s desk as it’s my birthday today.
“I hope people like Krispy Kremes – I know Soraya enjoys a glazed ring.”
But furious co-worker Soraya Faoussi hit back: “This is absolutely totally unacceptable James.
There are limits to ‘jokes’ you can send at work copying in all colleagues – this is extremely rude and offensive. Please note that this will be forwarded to HR – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”
Mr Conmy, a divorced dad from Medway, Kent, is understood to rake in more than £150,000 at Guy Carpenter.
Pals said Soraya, who went to the elite Sorbonne University in Paris, “is well liked”.

One added: “This was a joke that has gone horribly wrong.”
Mr Conmy was suspended pending an investigation. The firm is part of Marsh, one of the world’s biggest insurance brokers.
A spokesman said: “Our first priority is our affected colleague and we are offering all the support and counselling we can.”
