A development application has been lodged to build a cable car on Hobart's Mount Wellington, a controversial project that has been debated for more than 100 years. The cable car would run for two kilometres up to the peak of the mountain and would cost $54 million to build. Proponents of the project estimate it would inject about $64 million into the Tasmanian community, create 200 construction jobs, 80 operation jobs and take hundreds of cars off the road. However, opponents of the project are concerned about the impact it would have on the natural landscape. Image: News Corp Australia
