WATCH: Steve Kerr opens up on decision to play Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant’s ruptured Achilles is a devastating blow to one of the NBA’s best players and best teammates.

The 30-year-old will be a free agent this summer if he doesn’t sign his player option with the Warriors, but he faces nine to 12 months of rehab after the injury took him out of Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday.

Durant was playing for the first time in nine games following a calf injury in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals versus the Houston Rockets. He played 12 minutes before leaving the court in the second quarter.

On Wednesday, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr opened up about the decision to clear KD for the game, saying that the decision for Durant to play was a collaborative effort but that certainly the people involved would reverse the decision in hindsight.

“He was cleared to play by everybody involved,” Kerr said. “Now, would we go back and do it over again? Damn right. But that’s easy to say after the results.”
