Donald Trump raised eyebrows after branding Prince Charles ‘the Prince of Whales.’

The President of the United States referred to the heir to the British throne as ruler of mammals – rather than the country of Wales – in a tweet posted Thursday.

Trump wrote: ‘I meet and talk to “foreign governments” every day.

‘I just met with the Queen of England (UK), the Prince of Whales, the PM of the United Kingdom, the PM of Ireland, the President of France and the President of Poland.

‘We talked about “Everything!”

‘Should I immediately call the FBI about these calls and meetings? How ridiculous!

‘I would never be trusted again. With that being said, my full answer is rarely played by the Fake News Media. They purposely leave out the part that matters.’

Trump’s tweet prompted widespread mirth online, with one in tweeter sharing an image of the Welsh flag whose dragon had been replaced with a whale. The president has since replaced it with a correctly-spelt message.

The diatribe reference to an interview he gave ABC News screened Wednesday night.

Trump said he wouldn’t necessarily alert the FBI if a foreign government offered him damaging information on a rival in the 2020 presidential election.

Failure to report attempted interference in a US election is illegal under campaign finance law.

Asked whether he’d accept such information himself, or pass it on to Bureau investigators, Trump said: ‘I think maybe you do both.

‘I think you might want to listen, there isn’t anything wrong with listening.

‘If somebody called from a country, Norway, (and said) “we have information on your opponent,” I think I’d want to hear it.’

Trump met with Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, during a state visit to London earlier this month.

The president, First Lady Melania Trump and his four grown-up children  – Don Jr, Eric, Ivanka and Tiffany, also enjoyed a banquet with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace.
