RVs damaged in fire at Concord storage lot
CONCORD — Fire investigators were working to determine the cause of a single-alarm fire that heavily damaged multiple recreational vehicles and singed nearby brush, authorities said Thursday.
Shortly after 1:05 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers noticed a large plume of smoke near the Olivera Road offramp to Highway 242, and saw fire visible on city streets in the 1800 block of Arnold Industrial Way.
In a tweet, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said its firefighters were working to extinguish a fire in a storage lot between Highway 4 and Buchanan Field airport. The response closed Solano Way south of the highway, and residents were asked to avoid surface streets.
Firefighters arrived on scene at 1:26 p.m. after receiving a report of a single recreational vehicle on fire, and found three ablaze with flames spreading to other nearby vehicles, fire district spokesman Steve Hill said.
The fire was knocked down just before 1:35 p.m., with just over a dozen recreational vehicles, trailers and sport-utility vehicles destroyed or damaged by fire or heat and smoke, Hill said.
Concord police also responded to the scene, the CHP said. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
