People are leaving Download festival early over ‘Biblical’ mud

Commiserations to all who spent £200 on a ticket to Download, only to find themselves slithering through a giant mud pit.

That probably wasn’t what they had in mind when they thought about booking a festival in the middle of June.

If anyone didn’t bring their wellies, we fear for them.

The rock festival is looking like a bath of mud right now, and it’s so bad people are packing up their tents and leaving early.

One of those who cut their losses was Samantha Gibben, who said: ‘We had a perfectly watertight tent. Nothing was leaking. But left because of the mud. It’s that bad less than a day in.

‘I’ll never survive. My hips were dislocating from slipping on the mud as we walked in even with wellies. I can’t handle it.’

Here’s how the festival looked today…

One music fan said she spent £600 on the trip but had to head back home.

She said: ‘We travelled home last night, got in at 4am… gutted is an understatement for how I feel about leaving.

‘We couldn’t have afforded a hotel, we couldn’t afford to drive home and then back up today.

‘We wanted to save ourselves, our clothes, our belongings before they got drenched and ruined.

‘We only had a single skin tent (our fault completely) which honestly didn’t help but I’ve seen that even double skin tents have been having issues.’

The festival, where people are staying at Donington Park campsite in Castle Donington, Leicestershire, is getting more attention for its mud than its music.

Not everyone was put off by the mud, though.

‘Yeah I may be caked in mud, but i’m having a cracking time,’ Joanne Hayley wrote on Twitter.

Download Festival themselves tweeted: ‘Amazing that all of you got in and set up despite the Biblical rain we had!

‘No one is tougher than you guys.’
