Huge fire breaks out at abandoned hotel near Middlesbrough
Firefighters are battling a giant blaze at a hotel near Middlesbrough this evening.
At least three fire engines are currently tending to the scene at the Marton Hotel and Country Club, in Marton-in-Cleveland.
An ambulance is also in place, although it is unclear if anyone has been harmed.
Footage of the blaze shows thick black smoke billowing from the rear of the building, which closed in October 2017.
Witnesses told the Evening Gazette that the fire is concentrated in the area where the ballroom was situated.
Marton Road has been closed in both directions with northbound traffic being diverted on to the A174 Parkway.
Cleveland Fire have said they recommend ‘avoiding the area’ until the fire is put out.
