Fire destroys winery and restaurant in Adams

MANCHESTER, Ohio — A fire destroyed an Adams County winery and restaurant early Thursday morning leaving about 30 employees without a job.

Chief Rick Bowman said he thinks a fire started in the kitchen of the Moyer Winery and Restaurant at about 3 a.m., according to WCPO.

One firefighter became overwhelmed by the heat and was taken to a local hospital. The firefighter is expected to be OK. 

The winery has been a staple in the community since 1972.

It is owned by Ken and Kimberly Smith, who purchased it last year and renovated portions of the property with the founders in mind, according to WCPO.
