Ray Parlour tips two Arsenal youngsters to shine
Ray Parlour believes that Arsenal can follow Tottenham’s example in the coming transfer windows.
The Gunners are not believed to have much in the way of transfer funds at their disposal this summer as they look to strengthen ahead of Unai Emery’s second campaign in charge.
Arsenal are yet to officially announce any new signings this summer as they look to strengthen their squad.
According to the Daily Star, Arsenal only have around £40m to spend on new signings this summer as they look to add to their squad.
Their severely restricted transfer budget means that they are unlikely to be able to bring in many big names this summer ahead of the new campaign.
But former Arsenal midfielder Parlour believes that the situation could be a good opportunity to give youth a chance to shine in the first team next season – and he singled out Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith-Rowe as potential starlets.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Star, Parlour said: “The club have always been run like this. The fans know exactly what happens.
“It’s another opportunity for these youngsters to get a chance.
“Reiss Nelson is one who sticks out. You’ve got Emile Smith-Rowe as well.
“I think the fans love the youngsters to get an opportunity – and that’s a road Arsenal might have to go down.
“Everybody wants big signings, but it’s got to be the right player.
“£40m is not a lot, but you’ve seen what happened at Spurs where they didn’t go out and spend money.
“When Emery came in, he knew exactly what the situation was.”
Arsenal missed out on Champions League qualification for next season after they finished in fifth place in the Premier League and lost 4-1 to Chelsea FC in the Europa League final.
They have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
