Colbert, Ramos pick up prelim wins on FOX
Chris Colbert and Jesus Ramos were winners on tonight’s PBC prelims.
130/135-pound prospect Chris Colbert kept his undefeated record intact tonight with an eight-round decision win over veteran Alberto Mercado, winning on shutout scores of 80-72 across the board.
Colbert (12-0, 4 KO) really probably lost the final round of the fight, when Mercado (16-3-1, 3 KO) went for broke and may have hurt the 22-year-old Brooklyn fighter at one point, but otherwise Colbert was sharp and did as expected in this one. Mercado was game but outclassed by Colbert, who has real skills and a serious future in the sport if all keeps going well for him.
Jesus Ramos UD-4 Kevin Shacks
Ramos is an 18-year-old prospect from Arizona, a 5’10” southpaw who looks like he’ll settle in at 140 first, unless he grows into a full 147 by the time he’s ready for real fights. This was the first time he’s had to go the distance, improving to 10-0 (9 KO). This was PBC taking a look at an intriguing young fighter, we’ll see what they thought of him going forward. Shacks (3-4-3, 3 KO) gave him a decent little fight, but Ramos landed a lot.
Ramos won every round on all three cards, 40-36 across the board. BLH also had it 40-36 for Ramos. Punch stats had Ramos landing 120 of 302 (40%) of his total punches, and Stacks at 51 of 245 (21%).
