Missing YouTuber Etika’s belongings found on Manhattan Bridge cops say days after he worried fans with disturbing video
A phone and a backpack have been found on a bridge, believed to belong to the missing gaming Youtuber known as Etika.
Real name Desmond Amofah, he was last heard from on Wednesday night after posting a worrying video in which he expressed suicidal thoughts, claiming he had ‘pushed everyone away.’
New York Police have appealed for help from the public in finding the missing YouTuber whose backpack and phone they found on a Manhattan Bridge.
Amongst the belongings found were Amofah’s driving license, a Nintendo switch, headphones, clothes and wallet.
MISSING PERSON
According to the Metro, speaking of his disappearance on Wednesday a spokesperson for the Deputy Commissioner for Public Information said “the NYPD is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing person within the confines of the 84 Precinct.
“The circumstances are as follows.
“It has been reported to police that the missing was last heard from on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at approximately 2000 hours by phone.
“The missing is described as follows: Amofah, Desmond aka Etika.”
Desmond is described as a balck male, approximately 6″0 with brown eyes and black hair, wearing a white t-shirt.
‘PLEASE BE SAFE’
Worried fans are appealing to the successful YouTuber who boasts 130,000 subscribers to his gaming channel, on social media.
Comments such as “please be safe, we can’t lose you,’ and “we love you from the bottom of our hearts!” flood his most recent posts.
Before his disappearance the 29-year old uploaded a worrying video to both gaming site Twitch and to his YouTube channel where he discusses his feeling suicidal, which has since been taken down.
“I’m sorry, yo. I’m sorry I betrayed your trust, I’m sorry I pushed you all away,” he said the video.
In the video’s description he wrote “I mislead so many of you, I manipulated, I lied, I shifted blame… I don’t know what awaits me on the other side, but I’m ready to face it.”
‘BE SENSIBLE’
Visibly upset, the young man apologises profusely, and says that he ‘made a clown’ of himself.
“I wasn’t suicidal before, I really wasn’t. But one thing I didn’t realise is that the walls were closing in on me so fast”.
According to his former girlfriend, Desmond had been struggling with his mental health and had been hospitalised in the past.
This comes after a spate of similarly worrying tweets in April, in which Desmond describes being ‘mentally troubled’.
However, fans and fellow YouTubers alike are pushing for the gamer’s mental health to be taken seriously.
