Second Marriage: IHC Declares Permission from Reconciliation Council Mandatory

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has declared that it is mandatory to get permission from Reconciliation Council for second marriage.

On Sunday, the Chief Justice of IHC, Athar Minallah declared that no citizen of Pakistan can proceed for second marriage without the permission of his first wife and Reconciliation Council. Earlier, only the permission of the first wife was considered mandatory. Now, the citizens of Pakistan are subject to get permission from Reconciliation Council too.

The IHC declares that if a person does not get permission from Reconciliation court and he gets married on the permission evidence from his first wife, he will be liable to sentence.

The Islamabad High Court was hearing the case of Liaquat Ali, a Kashmiri citizen. He did love marriage with a girl in 2011. After two years, he did second marriage to another girl without getting permission from his first wife (Dilshad Bibi) and Reconciliation Council. His case will be decided on the basis of merit.
