Spider-Man: Far From Home Spot Teases Happy Hogan/Aunt May Romance

0

The latest Spider-Man: Far From Home TV spot teases fans of Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and Happy Hogan's (Jon Favreu) romance. Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) trusted aid and confidant will play a more prominent role in Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) next solo adventure that will pit him against Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). This is after his considerable part in Spider-Man: Homecoming. But aside from offering support to the young hero as they both grieve the death of Iron Man, Happy is also developing a romantic relationship with May.

Directed by Jon Watts, Far From Home picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame where Peter was brought back to life following Thanos' deadly snap in Avengers: Infinity War five years prior. However, his, alongside the rest of half of the universe's population decimated by the Mad Titan's return came at a price. Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) had to sacrifice her life for the Time Heist to be successful, while Stark had to give-up his to ensure the galaxy's future free of the villain's threat. As both Happy and Peter bond over their shared loss, the former also develops a kinship with May as seen in the recently released promo.

Marvel Studios (via GoodOrBad Trailer) roll out a 30-second spot featuring May checking up on Peter during his European trip in Far From Home. During their phone call, May let it slip that Happy's with her, understandably puzzling the young hero. This mimics another awkward encounter involving the three of them revealed in previously released trailers which is also included in this clip. It's worth mentioning the pair's blossoming romance was fairly overt during the set visit. Watch the full video below:

Far From Home flips the table on the Happy and Peter dynamic established in Homecoming. In the wall-crawling hero's first solo adventure, Tony tasked Happy to keep an eye on the young hero who was training to be an Avenger at that point. For the most of that film, Happy treated Peter as nuisance. By the end, however, the trusted aid mellowed down on the kid after he saved a plane-full of Stark's things from the Vulture (Michael Keaton). This time, it's Happy who needs to win Peter's approval if he's serious about getting together with May. Aside from that, Happy is also providing support for Peter who continues to struggle with the death of his mentor. Revealed in Far From Home's marketing is a heart-to-heart talk between the two as Peter fulfilled his duty as a hero.

Interesting as it seems to see a flustered Happy when dealing with Peter knowing his crush on May, this will definitely prompt questions regarding where MCU's Uncle Ben fits the picture. It's important to note, however, that considering the timeline, Ben's death took place roughly seven years ago. That's enough time for May to grieve and move on from his demise. It's curious how Marvel Studios will handle this Happy/May romance moving forward. In the meantime, aside from their shared loss of Tony Stark, Happy and Peter can bond over their respective budding relationships in Spider-Man: Far From Home with the latter also dabbling back in the dating game with MJ (Zendaya).
