Cricket World Cup 2019: Jason Roy bats in the nets but ruled out of Australia match

England opener Jason Roy returned to bat in the nets since a hamstring injury against West Indies but hasn’t been declared fit enough meaning he will sit out of the Australia match on Tuesday.

Roy tore his hamstring on June 14 during a league match of the ongoing world cup that saw him miss the big win against Afghanistan followed by a stunning defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka. However, scans conducted on Monday morning revealed the injury has improved and he could be back for India match on June 30.

The 28-year-old Roy has scored 215 runs from three innings so far that include a fifty and a century, will be monitored on day-to-day basis as England hope to get him fit for their final two league matches.

James Vince, his replacement, will continue to open the innings in his absence. However, Vince has managed scores of 26 and 14 in his two innings so far and will aim to impress in what could be his final opportunity before Roy is deemed match-fit.

England, the tournament favourites, have lost two of their matches so far making their passage to world cup semis a bit tricky. They need to win at least two of their remaining matches against Australia, India and New Zealand to make the last-four.
