Third earthquake hits Humboldt County in two-day span; no tsunami danger reported
A magnitude 4.1 earthquake hit Humboldt County about 34 miles west-southwest of Ferndale, the latest in a string of quakes over the weekend.
The latest quake, which occurred shortly after 3:42 p.m. Sunday, followed two other earthquakes late Saturday evening. One, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake had an epicenter just miles away from Petrolia.
Around half an hour before it, a magnitude 3.3 earthquake hit 17 miles southwest of Scotia.
None of the earthquakes resulted in tsunami danger, according to the U.S. Tsunami Warning Center.
“There is NO tsunami danger from this earthquake,” reads an evaluation on the center’s website of the latest 4.1 magnitude quake.
