British tourist drowns in Spain after falling off pedalo and getting dragged out to sea

A British man has died after falling off a pedalo he had hired and being swept out to sea.

Witnesses reported seeing the man, 31, struggling in the water before they called emergency services on Sunday afternoon.

Three ambulances and five police cars were sent to the Regueral Beach on the Costa Dorada.

Paramedics were able to drag the man out of the water and performed CPR, but were sadly unable to save him.

Local reports have said the man, who has not been named, was with a female companion at the time who is unharmed.

According to reports, the beach had lifeguards operating during the incident and the displayed flags were green, suggesting the sea was safe.

It is unclear whether local authorities are investigating the incident.

Last month, a five-year-old Georgian girl died off the La Pineda Beach in the same region when her rubber ring was dragged out to sea.

On April 30, a man, 83, also drowned off the coast of Llosa in Cambrils near to where the British tourist died.
