Mum shares heartbreaking injury pics of daughter, 13, punched, kicked and STAMPED ON by bullies at school gates
A MUM has shared heartbreaking pictures of her daughter who was punched, kicked and stamped on by bullies at the school gates.
Madison Coggin, 13, was left with a fractured cheekbone, eye socket, after the incident unfolded just a few meters away from Thamesview School, Kent.
One image shows Madison with tears in her eyes following the distressing experience six weeks ago.
Another shows the extent of Madison’s injuries with bruises around her eyes and swelling around her face.
Her mum Michaela Ratcliffe said Madison had endured weeks of bullying and received dozens of threatening messages in the weeks leading up to the incident.
She said: “They targeted her because she has a mouth on her and can stick up for herself so they didn’t like her.
“There are over 70 screenshots of threatening messages from previous months, calling her names and telling her to kill herself. The school wanted to move her but I refused.
“Madison is so angry about all the threats she has been getting and especially the attack. She is standing her ground and won’t let them win.
“She has gone back to school now but moans about it. Madison hasn’t been sleeping and she didn’t eat for two weeks. This has affected her emotionally and mentally.
“I just want to take her out of school during her lunch break so she doesn’t have to be around those threatening her.”
TOP TIPS ON HOW PARENTS CAN HELP THEIR KIDS COMBAT BULLYING
- TALK TO YOUR KIDS – Parents need to explain that if they are being bullied, it’s not their fault and that bullying isn’t OK.
- TIME OUT – Try to make sure young people get some time out if they are being bullied. This might mean taking time away from iPads, computers or phones.
- BUILD CONFIDENCE – Find things they can do that make them feel good. This could be just spending time with people they like, playing a musical instrument or doing a sport they enjoy.
- TEACH ‘SAFE’ INTERNET USE – With online bullying, there is no escape. You have to make sure they get a break from it and teach children how to stay safe online so they know how to block abusive or humiliating messages.
- REPORT ONLINE ABUSE – Report any abusive content to the site involved. They are more likely to take a video down if the child or parent makes the report themselves.
- GO TO THE SCHOOL – Speak to whoever your child has the most positive contact with in school. Find out the school’s anti-bullying policy and ask them to work with you to keep your child safe and ensure they enjoy their education.
- KEEP A DIARY – It can be useful to keep a log of what’s happened so that if you do speak to a teacher you have all the evidence in front of you.
The Sun Online launched a Block the Bullying Campaign with the NSPCC in a bid to stamp out vile videos being shared that show children being attacked.
Michaela claimed eight girls had jumped Madison but police have said only three committed the assault.
Thamesview School headteacher George Rorke said the perpetrators were not from his school.
He said: “I am aware of an incident that occurred outside of school hours on Tuesday, May 14, during which one of our pupils unfortunately suffered injuries on her way home.
“Although the alleged perpetrators do not attend Thamesview School, we are working closely with the local police to find a solution for our student and her family. Several meetings have taken place since the incident, with the student and her family to try to ensure appropriate support is put in place.
“Any students who may have witnessed or are believed to have helped incite the incident will be addressed.
“The safety and well-being of all our pupils is paramount at all times and we will take all measures necessary to ensure the young people at Thamesview School can learn and socialise in a safe environment.”
