Opinion: Pregnant women have other choices besides abortion

Abortion is just a way to get rid of responsibility.  Girls old enough to have sex must accept the responsibility of caring for the baby. Same for older women. I would allow abortions for victims of rape because the pregnancy was forced upon them.

Even though some women argue for control of their bodies and their right to decide, there are two lives to think about now.

Although the fetus can’t be seen, they are still living human beings from the moment of the first heartbeat.

At the end of the pregnancy if the mother doesn’t want to keep the baby, there are families out there who would be happy to adopt.

But in addition to adoption, there is help in raising the child from family members, friends and family counselors, churches and public social services.

I would raise taxes to help mothers provide for their child. This could mean tax breaks or help with housing, especially in Silicon Valley’s red-hot housing and rental market. We could build more 24-hour daycare centers at community centers and churches, and offer the service free to low-to-moderate-income mothers. This will help mothers and families who work more than one job or longer hours.

The daycare centers can recruit and train senior citizens to help care for babies, volunteers from churches and coaches to teach the kids sports and maybe even teachers to help with school. With the older kids they can bring in high school volunteers to help while also getting credit for volunteer hours.

Personally, I would volunteer to help when I reach the right age. I would like to help the kids with homework and things involving school.

All parents care for their children and don’t want any harm coming their way. Those children can grow and have a good life if all of us help and don’t point a finger.
