Monday Report Card: The ride of the day from Kieran Shoemark, a huge Irish punt landed at Southwell and a horse to keep on side in the near future at Chepstow
IT might not have been Royal Ascot, but Monday’s racing threw up some performances to note for punters.
Stay in the know with our Monday Report Card as we keep you a step ahead of the bookies.
Ride of the day – Kieran Shoemark
Now well on the comeback trail, young jockey Kieran Shoemark gave Sir Michael Stoute’s El Picador a blinder to win the opener at Chepstow.
Cutting out the pace, he had plenty in trouble a good way out down the long Chepstow straight, and despite the best efforts of the hot favourite, he kept them all at bay.
Sent off a weak 8-1, he looked an awkward ride sporting blinkers, and it was anything but a steering job.
It’s good to see Shoemark getting the attention of the big yards again.

A mighty Irish punt lands at Southwell
The Jam Man was available at 8-1 all morning, and 20-1 yesterday, but was quickly punted into the 9-4 jolly for Irish trainer Ronan McNally.
Beaten over 150 lengths in it’s last two starts, it was easy to see why the stewards called in connections beforehand to try and work out what was going on.
Anyway, the horse won easily and last time the horse appeared at Southwell he also scooped the lot. Perhaps those pesky bookies should have been a bit more careful this time around?
A horse to keep on side in the near future
Broadhaven Dream absolutely cruised home in the lucky last at Chepstow on only his fifth start.
He once again cut out the running and this time held on with ease, making a mockery of his lowly handicap mark.
He’ll go up a few pounds now, likely into the 60s now. But it would be no surprise to see him out under a penalty, and he looks way ahead of his rating.
The form of his Bath fifth is already working out superbly and there’s more to come from this sprinter at this level.
