The United States passed their first European test at the 2019 Women’s World Cup with flying colors and they’ll face Spain in the last 16 on Monday hoping to best another foe from across the pond. Sweden finished second to the Stars and Stripes in Group F and they take on another North American opponent in Canada hoping for a better result in the knockout stages.

Women’s World Cup: United States vs Spain

Date: Monday, June 24 Time: 12 p.m. ET TV Channel: FS1, Telemundo Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

Jill Ellis’ side remains the favorites to win this summer’s tournament and successfully defend a World Cup crown for the first time in their history. That’s hardly surprising considering they scored 18 goals in the group stage—at least 10 more than any other team—and didn’t concede a single goal. Spain nearly finished second behind Germany in Group B to advance, but they were unable to score against both Die Nationalelf and China in their last two games. The winner will face France, who beat Brazil, 2-1, in extra time on Sunday.

USA Lineup: Naeher, Dunn, Sauerbrunn, Dahlkemper, O’Hara, Mewis, Ertz, Lavelle, Rapinoe, Morgan, Heath

Spain Lineup: Paños, Leila, Mapi León, Paredes, Corredera, Guijarro, Torrecilla, Losada, Putellas, Jenni, Lucía G

Women’s World Cup: Sweden vs Canada

When: Monday, June 24 Time: 3 p.m. ET TV Channel: FS1, Telemundo Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

In hindsight, Sweden perhaps did well to limit the United States to just one goal per half in their final group match. They and Canada each ended the pool stage with six points to their name, with Kenneth Heiner-Moller’s side also suffering their only loss so far on Matchday 3 (2-1 vs. Netherlands).

Canada made it to the quarters for the second time in their history when they hosted four years ago, while two-time bronze medalists Sweden are seeking their sixth World Cup quarterfinal appearance. Germany beat Nigeria 3-0 on Saturday to become the first team to advance to the quarterfinals of this year’s tournament. They await the victor of this clash in the next round.
