Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes have just released their latest single "Señorita" and a fairly sultry and intimate music video to go with it. This new release sparked new reports that Cabello and Mendes are dating, though people have been suspecting the two were a couple for years.
The pair is close and open about their love for one another but they have long-been denying reports that they are a couple — and Cabello is currently dating Matthew Hussey, a dating coach and YouTuber.
But between their sweet social-media interactions and impressive musical collaborations, these two have a close friendship that fans love watching from the sidelines.
Here's a timeline of Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes' platonic relationship.
2014: The two met when they were both opening acts for Austin Mahone's 'Live On Tour'
During this tour, Shawn Mendes and Fifth Harmony (the band Cabello was part of until she left in December 2016) opened up for the artist Austin Mahone.
In a 2019 interview with V magazine, Cabello recalled her first impression of Mendes when they met on the Mahone tour, saying, "I remember I wanted to hang out with you, but you were always on the tour bus, just learning guitar."
Mendes remembered, "You were the only person that talked to me. Like, you were the only one of everybody on that tour who would say words to me."
March 2015: Mendes fueled some dating reports when he played a radio game
During a game of "Lips, Wife, Leave It!" on Capital FM, Mendes sparked reports that he might like Cabello as more than a pal. The interviewer asked him to choose who he'd marry out of Camila Cabello, Jade Thirlwall (of the band Little Mix), and actress Chloë Grace Moretz.
"Because I know Camila well, I'd probably wife Camila," he told the interviewer. Although it was just part of a game, his answer had some fans wondering if something was going on between him and Cabello.
November 2015: They released their first song together
In November 2015, the two released their first song together, "I Know What You Did Last Summer."
They created the song somewhat spontaneously after they encountered each other again backstage during Taylor Swift's 1989 tour — Mendes was the opening act and Cabello was a special guest.
Cabello told Rolling Stone in 2015, "[Backstage on this tour] was the first time we had ever really spent more than a few minutes talking to each other."
"We were just backstage hanging out, I pulled out my guitar and we were just messing around, not really thinking about writing a song," Mendes told the publication. Cabello added, "I am very lucky that we wrote the song because I also got a really good friendship out of that."
November 2015: They denied reports that they were dating during a TV interview
Reports that the two were dating blew up after the song was released and Mendes and Cabello denied them during an interview on "The Late Late Show with James Corden."
And when Corden asked if they ever made out, Mendes joked, "Every time I try to make a move, she just, like, swerves me off." Cabello also joked, "He friendzones me, he calls me kid!" They went on to say they were joking and they insisted that they had never made out and that they were definitely not dating.
October 2016: Again, Mendes responded to reports about him and Cabello dating
Nearly a year after their single came out, the two were still dealing with reports they were dating.
Mendes told People magazine that he and Cabello are just "really close friends." He said, "She is one of those people who is just very easy to connect with and still, to this day, is one of my greatest friends. You find that instant connection with people, and she's one of them."
May 2017: Cabello released a single and Mendes shared his support for her on Twitter
When Cabello dropped her single "Crying in the Club," Mendes tweeted out the video, writing, "speechless… goosebumps all over. You're incredible." Cabello replied, "I love you SO much and I miss you even more than I love you thank you for being such an amazing friend."
December 2017: Mendes called Cabello 'girlfriend material' but reaffirmed that the two are 'just really good friends'
Dating reports surfaced once again after Mendes called Cabello "girlfriend material" in an interview.
He told The New Paper, "She has the best sense of humor and she's probably — other than me — the most determined person I've ever met … the next guy that finds her should wife her up." He added, "We're just really good friends but I love her. She's one of my best friends."
April 2018: Mendes called Cabello his 'favorite person in the world'
In an interview with Beats-1 personality Zane Lowe, Mendes called Cabello his "favorite person in the whole world."
He added, "I don't think you'll ever meet somebody who can feel emotion like her, in all aspects. She can feel hurt like no other, but she can feel love like no other."
April 2018: Mendes also said that Cabello is the first person who listens to all of his singles
In an interview with 103.5 KTU, Mendes said that he has Cabello listen to all of his singles first, even before his family. He explained, "I treasure her opinion."

February 2019: They snapped a photo together at the Grammys
