Passengers evacuated from BART after train breaks down

OAKLAND — About 400 passengers on a BART train were evacuated after it became disabled between stations, the agency said.

Trains were still running, but BART’s system was experiencing system-wide delays, spokeswoman Anna Duckworth said.

The passengers who were evacuated were OK, according to Duckworth. The train broke down between the 12th Street Oakland City Center and Lake Merritt stations.

They were taken to the 12th Street station, Duckworth said.

It was not known immediately why the train became disabled.
