Spider-Man: Far From Home Banners Show Nick Fury Blind in Both Eyes

0

A couple of Spider-Man: Far From Home banners feature Nick Fury blind in both eyes. After going missing in action the last couple of years in the MCU, Samuel L. Jackson is back reprising his comic book character. He's appeared in two Marvel Studios films this year alone, with a third upcoming outing in the Jon Watts-directed flick.

Fury will recruit Peter Parker (Tom Holland) for a mysterious mission that will team him up with Quentin Beck aka Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) - supposedly a hero from another universe. This is the first time that the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director and Spider-Man will work together, allowing the former to mentor another hero in the MCU. Far From Home will also mark Jackson's official return to the franchise in the present time. He had very minimal screen time in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, while Captain Marvel was set in the middle of 1990s, when he still had two eyes. This may have caused some confusion from the marketing team for Far From Home with banners seemingly unsure which eye Fury lost more than two decades ago.

Shared by Jackson himself on his official Instagram account is a photo featuring side-by-side posters of Far From Home. At first glance, both look fine, until further inspection - one banner has Fury's iconic eye patch on his left eye, while the other, on his right. Like many fans, the actor was confused by this, reminding everyone that it's the left eye the character has lost. Fans in the comment section found this hilarious, some of them pointing out that the artist behind the wrong banner simply mirrored the image and missed the wrong detail. Check out the photo below:

For years, fans theorized how Fury lost his left eye. He made a serious speech about it in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, revealing that it happened after he trusted someone who ultimately betrayed him. Because of this, the public assumed that it was during one of his dangerous missions as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Captain Marvel, however, revealed that in reality, it was due to a cat scratch - granted that it's a Flerken - but it wasn't as dramatic as Fury made it sound. If anything, he might have even been able to salvage it had he taken the ointment Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) offered him.

It's obviously a mistake from the marketing department that handles Spider-Man: Far From Home, and frankly, it won't harm the chances of the film making sales. The problem with this, however, is that the Spider-Man franchise in the MCU has a reputation for rolling out incredibly bad posters. Homecoming's ensemble one-sheet was mocked online, becoming the inspiration for various parodies. While its sequel doesn't have a poster as derided, it also doesn't have a stunning one. If anything, seeing a banner that wrongfully depicts Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home getting the go ahead for release makes the campaign look worse.
