Updating: Here is every free agent connected to the Lakers
The Lakers already have LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Now we wait and see which free agent (or free agents) they’re ultimately going to sign.
The Los Angeles Lakers are heading into free agency this summer with Anthony Davis, LeBron James and (likely) max cap space. In this post, we’re going to be providing a list of who reliable sources have reported the team has shown interest in, and other free agency scuttlebutt.
Bookmark this page and check back, because we’ll be updating with each development on each player. Hopefully this helps you keep track of everything, and also illustrates just how much (sometimes conflicting) noise there is regarding all of this.

Now, on to the list:
Kawhi Leonard
- (6/18) Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the Lakers are not seen as serious contenders for Leonard, and may not even get a meeting.
- (6/17) Kevin O’Connor of the Ringer reported that the Lakers will pursue Leonard this summer, as expected. He has said so multiple times.
Kyrie Irving
- (6/16) Someone close to LeBron James reportedly thinks that Kyrie Irving is “in play” for the Lakers, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic. David Aldridge (also of The Athletic) also has heard that Irving has interest in playing with Anthony Davis.
Jimmy Butler
- (6/16) Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported in the aftermath of the Anthony Davis trade that Jimmy Butler was a “top priority” for the Lakers.
- (6/14) Haynes reported earlier that the Lakers have “genuine interest” in Butler, who was seen sporting purple and gold shoes on Instagram earlier in the summer, fueling further speculation about his intentions for free agency.
D’Angelo Russell
Kemba Walker
- (6/16) In the aftermath of the Anthony Davis trade, there were two separate reports that Walker is a top target for the team in free agency.
Al Horford
Brook Lopez
- (6/21) Brian Windhorst of ESPN said on a podcast that the Lakers are “sniffing around” Lopez.
- (6/16) Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported that some within the Lakers are interested in bringing Lopez back in free agency this summer.
