Hearn wants WBC to give Whyte a date for full title shot

Whyte wants official confirmation about when he’ll get his title shot should he beat Oscar Rivas.

According to Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, the WBC’s #1 contender Dillian Whyte will require a date from the sanctioning body about when he’ll get his mandatory title shot against Deontay Wilder should his fight with Oscar Rivas be confirmed as a final eliminator.

Whyte is currently slated to face Rivas on July 20 for the WBC’s interim title, which Hearn also hopes will formally install Whyte as the mandatory challenger situation. Whyte has currently been the sanctioning body’s #1 rated challenger for a long while, and Hearn says it’s time for the WBC do the right thing.

“We’re getting there,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “We won’t give in. 600 days this weekend that Dillian Whyte has been WBC No 1, that’s virtually unheard of and he’s boxed in that period, [Derek] Chisora, [Robert] Helenius, Lucas Browne, Joseph Parker, Chisora again.

“He’s already waited 600 days. Let’s not wait 800 or 900 days, so we need a date for the WBC to confirm when Deontay Wilder must fight the winner of that fight.”

The WBC, however, hasn’t exactly been thrilled with the way Whyte and his team have been calling them to the carpet over the way they’ve handled the situation thus far. They’ve even recently suggested that Whyte could find himself in an adverse position if he continues to publicly ridicule the organization.
