RECAP: Olson Wins $1000 Against Gase

0

The rain threatened, but ultimately racing prevailed on a big night for the fans. Not only was the Mid-American Stock Car Series and the Midwest Dash Series in town, but it was also the debut of the $1000-to-win “Be A Hero 30” Sport Mod Feature. Joey Gase and his dad, Bob, were special guests in that race. A special thanks to Eternal Fan and Stuff Etc, for sponsoring the night and making it happen!

The Skinny

Kevin Korsmo notched his second win in the Bulltown Legends Series, making his way around Nick Slabaugh for the spot after Slabaugh led early on in the race. He would go on to finish 3rd, with Dave McCalla getting 2nd. The points between Korsmo and McCalla were at a stand-still for this week, but the lead has been shrinking the past few races.

In the Anderson Automotive Hobby Stocks, the drivers were all after a win, and it could be seen from the stands. At one point, the drivers were four-wide going into turn 3, but luckily made it out. While the craziness ensued, it was Jim Hanson that slipped away to catch another feature victory over Logan Clausen and Jasen Freeman.

The Anderson Automotive Hobby Stocks had a special enticement to win on Mid-Season Championships, as Anderson Automotive put an extra $100 on the line to win. Jim Hanson accepted the Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors Challenge, and while he got to the rest of the field fairly quick, it was not enough time to make it around the leaders. Matt LaCoursiere found solace in being out front, and held his line to make sure it would be his car that pulled into the winners’ circle afterwards.

The Cassill Motors Sport Mods had 18 hungry drivers going for the win, but all eyes were on dirt ace Tony Olson and NASCAR driver Joey Gase when it came down to the wire. The two drivers exchanged the lead a couple times, but Gase found himself trying to find a way around Olson. He looked low, he looked high, he even looked under the bumper of Olson, but could not get it done in time. Olson won the inaugural “Be a Hero 30” presented by Eternal Fan over Gase and Kyle Olson.

After flipping down the backstretch of the famed “Milwaukee Mile” last Sunday afternoon, Ron Vandermeir Jr. got redemption with the Mid-American Stock Car Series victory in Iowa.
