500 women rallied together to build homes for Habitat for Humanity’s 10th anniversary of Women Build in the GTA
Earlier this spring Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area (Habitat GTA) kicked off their 10th annual Women Build event to give a hand to families in need of affordable housing.
On April 30th, over 50 Women Build participants came together to launch the event’s 10th anniversary, and helped build the final 20 of 50 homes at the organization’s Pinery Trail Build in Scarborough’s Malvern community – Habitat GTA’s largest build site.
Over the course of 10 days, five hundred women worked alongside each other and the families that will be call these new buildings their home. As a volunteer event, Women Build empowers women from all walks of life to take action for the right to access safe and affordable housing, while advocating solidarity and pride.
Since 2009, GTA Women Builds have rallied over 5,000 women to help build 85 homes and raise more than $4.5 million in support of families in need of a place to live, according to Habitat GTA.
