James McCann, Jose Abreu named to American League all-star team

Two White Sox are going to the all-star game as reserves.

When he was acquired this December, few could’ve expected James McCann to produce like he has.

McCann, who has been behind the plate for every pitch Lucas Giolito has thrown this season, was named to his first career all-star team Sunday. McCann is having a career year offensively, entering Sunday with a .320 average and nine home runs, and that was good for a spot on the AL team as a reserve.

While the all-star game will be a new experience for McCann, it will be the third trip to the event for Jose Abreu. Voted a starter last year, Abreu will be a reserve this year. He came into Sunday’s game hitting .262 with 19 homers and 60 runs driven in.
