Chemical spill in Upper East Side basement seriously injures woman

A woman was seriously injured by a chemical spill in the basement of an Upper East Side apartment building Monday morning, police said.

The FDNY said what appeared to be hydrochloric acid spilled in the basement of the home on E. 86th St. near Second Ave. about 9:20 a.m.
