New petition urges Trump to label Antifa as a 'terror' group

After violent attacks in Portland and the surfacing of a video from the Charlottesville clash showing Antifa protesters shouting “smash these Nazi scum,” a petition is urging President Trump to designate the so-called “anti-fascist” movement a domestic terrorist organization.

The petition argues members of Antifa have “burnt down universities, attacked the elderly and even threatened acid attacks … in order to reach a desired political outcome.”

The petition refers to an attack in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday in which “members of Antifa brutally assaulted an independent journalist, who remains hospitalized with a brain bleed after being viciously beaten and doused in liquid concrete.”

It was journalist Andy Ngo who suffered brain bleeding after he was hit with a “milkshake” concoction that contained quick-drying cement, the Gateway Pundit reported.

Another man, Adam Kelly, was beaten with a metal rod by Antifa, leaving him with large bloody gashes on his head. The suspect in the beating of Kelly, the Gateway Pundit said, is Joseph C. Evans, who was previously arrested at a Portland Antifa riot for recklessly endangering another person and unlawful use of a weapon.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, called on federal law enforcement to bring legal action against Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler for ordering the police to stand down during the Antifa violence Saturday.

‘Allahu akbar’

Meanwhile, Big League Politics reported the newly surfaced video from the 2017 Charlottesville clash over a Civil War statue shows dozens of Antifa protesters marching through a street chanting the Islamic phrase “Allahu akbar,” or Allah is supreme, and “smash these Nazi scum” before celebrating loudly.

After the chanting, one protester exclaims, “That is awesome!”

The local group responsible for the attacks Saturday, Rose City Antifa, boasted of the violence on Facebook and Twitter, reported Summit News.

A post on the group’s official Facebook page celebrated the “amazing success” of Saturday’s rally and admitted to the attack on Ngo.

Nevertheless, as the tech giants routinely censor conservatives and conservative organizations, the Antifa chapter remains a presence on Facebook and Twitter.

What is domestic terrorism?

Jen Kerns, a former spokeswoman for the California Republican Party, made the case in a Daily Caller opinion column for the federal government to designate Antifa a terrorist organization.

She pointed out that the Federal Bureau of Investigation defines domestic terrorism as violence perpetrated by groups with “extremist ideologies of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.”

Antifa meets that definition, Kerns contended, because the group “consists of American citizens radicalized by left-wing ideology who carry out threats of violence.”

Countless photographs, eyewitness accounts and video evidence over the past two years support the designation, she said.

Kerns cited a protest of conservative speaker Ben Shapiro last year on the University of California’s Berkeley campus in which Antifa members destroyed campus property, set fire to trash cans, beat Republican students and forced students to shelter in place.

Campus police did not react, and the university settled a lawsuit, paying organizers nearly $100,000.

‘Before it’s too late’

Kerns argued that in 2001, the left-wing environmental group Earth Liberation Front was designated a domestic terror organization. The group, declaring opposition to any new construction, claimed credit for setting fire to new condominiums in San Diego in 2003.

She named other groups that have been designated terrorist organizations, such as the Weather Underground and Fuerzas Armadas de Liberacion, or FALN.

“If a domestic terror designation was enough for these groups — some of which never injured anyone — Antifa ought to get the classification,” she wrote. “Antifa has injured people at their protests and events.”

Kerns concluded that the “only question is how many people Antifa will kill or send to the hospital before the feds take action.”

“Mr. President, call for the designation before it’s too late.”
