Evie’s Hamburgers, a retro fave, closes in Walnut Creek
Evie’s Hamburgers, which served up 1950s-style diner nostalgia along with burgers, fries and shakes, has closed its doors in Walnut Creek.
A customer noted on the restaurant’s Facebook page that June 30 would be the last day of operation. As of Monday, the phone line was disconnected.
According to Claycord News & Talk, the restaurant is permanently shuttered, with no details from the owners on reasons why.
Another restaurant at Encina Grande on Ygnacio Valley Road — Jade Garden — had been enmeshed in lease disputes with the center’s new owners. But as of fall 2018, the Chinese restaurant was told it could stay.
Besides burgers, Evie’s served tuna melts, chicken sandwiches, BLTs and a full breakfast menu.
For years here, the vintage look included a black-and-white checkerboard floor, photos of celebrities and a wall of license plates.
