Facebook workers ‘targeted with sarin’ at California mailing facility

FACEBOOK workers may have been exposed to deadly sarin in a suspected targeted attack at the social media giant’s mailing facility.

Police say two people have potentially been exposed to the lethal chemical at the building in Menlo Park, California.

The facility has been evacuated as fire crews examine the suspicious package, which was sent to the facility today.

The two workers were taken to hospital but are not said to be showing any signs of illness.

Police are also investigating.

Menlo Park Fire Marshall Jon Johnston said: “We have two possible exposures but right now they are not exhibiting any signs or symptoms.”

He added that the package was not opened and Facebook has all packages run through a machine which can detect dangerous substances.

A Facebook spokesperson said four buildings in the area were initially evacuated.

Only one building remains evacuated and the others have been declared safe.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines sarin as a “human-made chemical warfare agent classified as a nerve agent.”
