Brewers at Reds, Game 1 - Preview and Lineups

0

A big, large, great, grand, groovy 4-game series begins.

‘Last place’ is such a bummer of a phrase. Alas, the Cincinnati Reds do technically sit in last place in the National League Central, although that’s not quite as destitute as it sounds.

Let’s break that down for a second.

The Reds have 43 losses to date. The Milwaukee Brewers, tied with the Chicago Cubs atop the division, have 39 losses to date. The Reds and Brewers, beginning tonight, play each other for 4 consecutive games in this last big series before the All Star break. That means that yes, if the Reds pull off this 4 game sweep, the last place team in the division and the team currently tied for the division lead will be tied in the loss column.

That’s how perilously close this NL Central is this season. Now, we can jut hope the Reds can finally string together the kind of season-altering win streak that makes this entire scenario plausible.

Tonight’s series opener will pit Tyler Mahle against Adrian Houser in a matchup of talented young righties. First pitch is set for 7:10 PM ET at GABP, and since Cubs fans have finally vacated the premises, there should be ample good seating available.

Go Reds. Goooooo.
