Akira Yaegashi takes part in 2 round exhibition
In April we saw Akira Yaegashi (28-6, 16) [八重樫 東] stopping Thai youngster Sahaphap Bunop (4-3, 3) in 2 rounds. Today the former 3-weight world champion was back in the ring, as he took part in a 2 round exhibition with fellow Ohashi gym fighter Katsuki Mori (3-0, 1) [森且貴].
The exhibition was put on due to Mori's original opponent for the card pulling out of the show, though left the youngster with a chance to share the ring with the popular Yaegashi. For Mori this would have been an amazing experience.
The big talking point however was what Yaegashi would go on to talk about after the exhibition, taking a microphone and hinting to fans at the Korakuen Hall that he would be wanting a rematch with Kazuto Ioka (24-2, 14) [井岡一翔], who recently claimed the WBO Super Flyweight title. If he can't secure that bout he'd still like to pursue a potential world title fight at Super Flyweight and made it clear that that is what he has his eyes on for later in the year.
It's not clear if, or when, Yaegashi will get a Super Flyweight world title shot, but it's very clear that that is the key reason why he is continuing his career and today it seemed clear that he is actively pursuing another world title.
