UK weather forecast – Britain to swelter in 26C scorcher as UK heats up again

0

TEMPERATURES are expected to slowly rise over the coming days as the sweltering heat is due to return by Friday.

The heat had cooled off today as temperatures peaked just below 24C but the mercury is expected to rise from Wednesday, hitting 26C by the end of the working week.

Most of the UK is in for a spell of fairly settled weather in the next few days, according to the Met Office.

Met Office meteorologist Simon Partridge told The Sun Online: “Most of England and Wales will remain fine, dry and bright with sunny spells.

“Only the far north will see the odd shower.”

Southern parts are expected to see plenty of sunshine although temperatures will be much lower in places like Northern Ireland and Scotland, which could see some wet conditions.

The UK had previously baked last week with the arrival of the Saharan Bubble heatwave with temperatures peaking at 35C.

The mercury hit 35C in Northolt, Middlesex, as Britain basked in extreme heat sweeping across Europe from North Africa.

Brits made the most of the sun by firing up BBQs – while others headed to the beach and gathered in beer gardens.

The A50 dual carriageway melted near Foston, Derbs, on Sunday – causing hours of delays.

A downpour of “blood rain” in Scotland left an orange dust on cars.

On Saturday night, 15.8mm of rain fell in Edinburgh during a thunderstorm while heavy rain also struck as far south as Leicester.

Scotland was blasted by more than 20,000 lightning strikes as dramatic thunderstorms raced across the country over the weekend.

The incredible total was recorded by the German lightning-tracking website blitzortung.org between midday and 10pm on Saturday.

On the ground, this produced a number of fires and power outages – as electricity sub stations received direct hits.

The Scottish thunderstorms also left the country cooler at the start of July than it was at the end of June.
